Dec. 1, 2011: PM Network–the official magazine of the Project Management Institute. Green Growth: Organizations worldwide need help managing and measuring their environmental impact–and project professionals are the first in line to benefit.

“Usually, people who don’t have green experience become sustainability experts by proxy and by practice, Mr. Smolen says. “It may start with recognizing that your company isn’t addressing its carbon footprint or that it’s very resource-heavy, then putting together a brief business plan to tackle the problem by coming up with solutions the company can act on. All of a sudden, you’ve got sustainability-related project management experience. It’s fabulous. And with a year or two, that could easily become a recognized green job.”

By DAN SMOLEN

“For several years, I’ve recruited in the green jobs space. I have also written a book that helps business executives pivot into the New Green Economy.

Mr. Brooks’ op/ed is a [necessary] punch in the gut. And many of the comments posted to this thread are indeed excellent. But, let is not give up on the New Green Economy for it is our–and our kids’–future.

The Left, Right and Center have done a terrible job of framing the national green economy discussion. Yes, green is about helping the environment and resource sustainability. Yes, we should promote work and companies–like Deloitte and others–that successfully support social benefit. And certainly, we should follow our sustainability supporting U.S. military which believes going green is key to our national security interests.

Board rooms following “triple bottom line” practices will help their companies and the economy grow, thus, we must support ‘green’ because it is good for business.

And we must train–and fully support–the talent that will drive the New Green Economy. Our best days lie ahead.

June 20, 2010: California Job Journal. Is Your Job Search Well Balanced? Many jobseekers go overboard with online job boards

By GINNY FRIZZI, Creators.com

Dan Smolen, an executive recruiter and author of Tailoring the Green Suit: Empowering Yourself for an Executive Career in the New Green Economy, believes that online job sites will remain popular with jobseekers.

“There remains the collective notion that responding to online posts is an efficient way for jobseekers to pursue best employment opportunities,” he says. “However, given the research suggesting that every job opening yields seven applicants, I believe that the effectiveness of seeking opportunities via online job boards has waned. Actually, I suggest a hedge-your-bet strategy that includes several jobseeking channels, including online job boards.
